show me what i'm looking for

When Paul Newman was asked about infidelity regarding his wife of many years, Joanne Woodward, he replied, "Why go out for a hamburger when you have steak at home?" They have been married over 50 years.

My roommate is fantastic. a wonderful listener and advice-giver, and just an all around beautiful person. From time to time she will ask me, "kel, how's your heart today?" we both laugh but it's actually a very good question. How is your heart? lately mine's been feeling a little bruised to be honest. and it got me to thinking, have i been asking for it?
i read a fabulous quote the other day, its from my dear dear friend Meg's blog. "Style My Story," sheer brilliance frankly. She was my inspiration to start my own. anyways here it is,

"People tell us who they are, but we ignore it...
Because we want them to be who we want them to be." -Mad Men

This is genius, and so simple. When you meet people they are constantly showing you who they are.  Sometimes i assume that by knowing me, people will fit into my ideal, and what i want them to be. that is ridiculous.i wish that coke would be as healthy as brussel sprouts, i wish that guy would act as nice as he looks. people are far less complex than we give them credit for. in case you feel like your heart has been bruised lately, pay attention to what people are telling you about themselves
when
you
aren't
asking.

following the leader

i used to have baby ducks. three to be exact. they had names and they were precious, they would follow me around as i walked barefoot through the yard. they would get distracted and then trip over themselves, hurrying to catch up with me. so often,

i feel like a baby duck.

and don't we all? we're following each other around trying to stay in line and when we fall or get behind we trip over ourselves trying to catch up. have you ever wondered how ducks learn how to swim? they don't. they are hatched already knowing. Philipians 4:19 comes to mind, "And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Amen. what if God already gave it to you? "it" being whatever you need to get across the lake.

today i'm telling myself to allow my heart to fly, not weighed down by all of that. school, work, drama with men, with plans, with the future. just let your heart...

 fly.

...and try this if you can:)
